Zoning

2 Jan 2023 I am for a zoning ordinance within the city. Not a very complicated one, for we are not a complicated city. Many calls that I receive are inquiries by citizens as to what is being built or moved on to adjacent properties. I believe that many citizens have an expectation when they purchase a property, whether recently or many years ago. They expect their neighborhood to look a certain way and that their investment is not lost. Without any zoning requirements, no investment or expectation can be protected. I feel that an area that is residential should be restricted to actually be residential. The citizens should be engaged significantly to delimit the zoning boundaries. The issues of single family, multi-family, commercial, mixed uses, public areas and even type of structures should be decided by the citizens. Without the zoning ordinance, the land use will become increasingly chaotic and uncomfortable. Currently there is nothing that protects against a deplorable land use next to a residence and, unfortunately, this is more common for the under represented citizens.
