Code Enforcement
17 Mar 2023. The 2023 budget for animal control is $61,153. The cost of enforcement definitely benefits all of the citizens, but often due to repeat offenders and the irresponsibility of just a few citizens. The offenses are rarely wild animals and is often dogs that are creating havoc. I wish that the care of the animals was more responsible allowing the redirection of this service to other services that would benefit more citizens.
17 Mar 2023. Two years ago, before I joined the city commission, I heard from many citizens that one of the priorities was to clean up Ranger. In 2000 a Community Development Plan was developed that was funded by a Community Development Program Grant. In this plan 184 units were classified as having major deterioration. 131 units were classified as dilapidated. In the over 20 years since, I am not aware of any actual removal or correction of these 315 units by the action of the city government. There have been and are ordinances in existence, but enforcement does not seem to be required.
In my tenure, I repeatedly have made this a priority. We have passed an ordinance to clean up abandoned mobile homes and an ordinance for Substandard structures. This has had no impact on the existing dangerous and unsightly structures nor the continued deterioration. It is well past time to chart a course of enforcing the related ordinances.
